Les observations menées dans ces différents contextes permettent d'identifier certaines récurrences en matière d'inégalités sociales de santé. Si celles-ci sont bien connues des professionnels de la santé et documentées dans la littérature scientifique depuis de nombreuses années, les interrogations relatives à leur rôle dans la propagation de la Covid-19 et de ses effets différenciés au sein de la population n'ont été formulées qu'assez tardivement. Produit d'un travail pluridisciplinaire, cet ouvrage met particulièrement l'accent sur les conséquences sociales et de santé des mesures gouvernementales prises durant cette crise sanitaire sur les populations les plus précarisées. En dépit des variations politiques liées aux contextes nationaux, un même cadrage des politiques publiques a prévalu. Il ressort que ce dernier a été dominé par des préoccupations et des données médicales et épidémiologiques, mais il s'est montré très peu sensible aux enjeux des inégalités sociales qui n'ont été abordés qu'à l'occasion des difficultés rencontrées lors des campagnes de vaccination.“

Angaben zum Inhalt: „COVID-19, as well as the measures set to stop the spread of the virus, strike urban life at its heart. Indeed, much of what makes urban life attractive thrives on the physical proximity of a diversity of people in densely populated built environments. It then comes as no surprise that the socio-spatial dynamics of this infectious disease have triggered a lively debate on the future of the city. In this chapter, by engaging with several voices in this public and academic debate, we focus on the question of whose city we are talking about when we refer to the post-COVID-19 city, focusing on the highly (sub)urbanized Flemish region and Brussels in Belgium. While there is plenty of evidence emerging that both COVID-19 and the COVID-19 measures, in particular the lockdown, hit the urban population very unequally and that it reproduces and strengthens certain urban inequalities, we argue that in the debate on urban life in the (post-)COVID-19 city a ‘white’ middle-class perspective is often dominant. As a result, the diversity of spatial needs and the varying degrees of spatial poverty are not sufficiently taken into account. We then move on to document the impact of COVID-19, and the measures to counter it, on precarious groups living in the city. Finally, we suggest a few socio-spatial lessons which could be drawn from the lockdown for a more equal post-COVID-19 city. The impact of the lockdown on urban life and the use of urban space was instantaneous. A remarkable feature of several early newspaper articles on COVID-19 and in Flemish cities and Brussels is its framing in terms of ‘urban flight’. In the articles, COVID-19 is framed as a potential new driver of urban flight and thus a threat to the renewed popularity of cities with (a part of) the middle class.“

Angaben zum Inhalt: „Op 14 maart 2020 ging België in lockdown om de corona-pandemie te bestrijden. Van dag op dag veranderde het dagelijks leven: iedereen moest in zijn kot blijven, bedrijven en organisaties sloten hun deuren, het sociaal leven viel stil, enkel essentiële diensten mochten nog geleverd worden. [...] De Brusselse sectoren welzijn en zorg toonden in deze crisis een grote flexibiliteit, betrokkenheid, en een dynamisch management. Er werden tientallen noodhulpinitiatieven genomen; burgers, middenveld en overheid werkten vlot samen; elke dag ontston-den er nieuwe projecten en nieuwe samenwerkingen. Duizenden Brusselaars in nood werden bijgestaan. Veel van wat er op het terrein gebeurde, haalde nauwelijks de media. Het beleid werd aangestuurd door wetenschappers en statistieken, sociale cohesie was geen issue. Doelgroepen die vaak onzichtbaar zijn in de samenleving, kregen nauwelijks aandacht tijdens de corona-maatregelen. Daarom laten we in dit cahier 25 organisaties aan het woord over de noodhulp en zorgverlening tijdens de corona-lock-down. Zo krijgen ook de meest kwetsbaren in onze samenleving een stem. Dit cahier is een tijdsdocument, een getuigenis uit het voorjaar van 2020.“
